what alarm
is it low oil or temp alarm,,i had a 150 opti that was mounted high on the transom and at speed or certain slow runing with bow up the low water alarm would go off,,ended up was just air around top...

engine height
have you tried lifting the engine 1 hole up on the transom,,depending on your boat and set up you may gain your rpm and even save sum fuel,,get lighter steering,etc,,for no cost just an hours work,
