I got our local woodcarver to chisel the numbers onto a teak plaque about 6" x 4" - not a lot of dosh, looks different and easy to maintain. It's fitted inside the boat where it can be seen easily....

Might be worth asking about the air intake manifold - the valves therein are plastic and prone to head for the cylinders at some speed, with a potentially large amount of damage to engine and wallet....
