This is a new RIB design introduced last year by this company formerly better known for its dinghies and sailboats, It is not a UK company which would explain its being little known in UK.

I would think that rope loops would not spread...

I would think that rope loops would not spread the pressure on the sole of the foot when you put your weight on it to lift yourself up into the boat. Maybe OK if wearing some footwear.
