Suspension seats and backrests

I bought Ullman seats for the Round Britain Race on Black Gold and understand that the reason Ullman don't fit kidney type backrests is that in extreme conditions you can catch your ribs on them. We...

Forecast

Chris we are on duty for the Cowes orquay on Saturday so given the latest forecast that I've seen, Sunday 30th looks like favourite with SW 3-4. Gavin

What sort of pace?

Depends on the weather of course, but happy to run at 30 knots if that works for you. It would be good to have the company of another boat. Gavin

Alderney day trip on the 30th or 31st August

We are planning to run over to Alderney for lunch and back in Black Gold on either the 30th or 31st depending on the weather. We have always been really lucky with the weather in the past. It would...

Blue or Black

I bought two of these engines as the 18hp two stroke is the most powerful engine that you can lift for my sailing boat's Zodiac tender and I had another as the spare in my Scorpion. They look like...

Weymouth weekend

Julian, thanks for organising a very good weekend. We had an "interesting" run down to Weymouth in Black Gold on our own on Saturday and a good run back on Sunday in company with the Ribcraft 5.85...

Pembroke fun

It all feelsl very strange as the fleet takes to the road. Crane in Pembroke unable to launch this evening as wind speed too high. Concern amoung those with support crews is that without unloading...

Wrong picture as well

Maybe they thought the Mk1 Scorpion looked better. Reading the whole thing again this week it is very strange. Is the writer new to the job?

MBY lost the plot

Not that I mind being 40:1, but not sure there is any value in trying to compare boats from different classes. Added to that in our entry, they couldn't spell my name and got the boat length wrong. ...

Dry stacking

I am a big fan of them. In the last year I have used KB in Portsmouth, Haven Quay where our Scorpion was built and now Hamble Point. I always try to avoid long river passages which seem to take so...

Humminbird

I had one which did depth and GPS and the build quality was terrible. Despite the boat being covered all week, water got in and it proved to be very unreliable. I decided then that I wouldn't touch...

Seats and bolsters

I think the Ullman people would argue that you need to be able to move sideways (and stay vertical) as the boat isn't always going straight up and down. People who are more used to seats and bolsters...

Ullman seats

Ian, The Ullman seats are padded but quite firm. Not sure what's under the open weave stretch fabric seat covers. Mine (like most Ullmans) are the jockey seats which need to hold their shape - Ullman...

In water cover

We don't leave our boat in the water but I cover it before it comes out. Scorpion do a cover which has straps round the tube mounted handles providing security and tension without having to have...

Race View

Cookee, the answer is I'm not sure what it does beyond the regular offering. As we have no dials on the boat I did want something to show engine info while we are looking at the map...I agree with...

Gateway

I have a System View Race edition and a gateway to my Northstar M121 which looks the same as the Navman. We are just learning how to use all the info provided. Gavin

Zodiac engine

I run my 3.4 metre Zodiac Fastroller with an 18hp 2 stroke Tohatsu which was the lightest engine for its power. Compare the Tohatsu's 41kg with some of the others. Only problem is that they may not...

Rooster

We were in Lymington this afternoon at 4pm and a large diesel Scorpion came back for lifting out. She looked about 9 metres with a hard nose. I think this may have been your boat. Gavin

Covered bow

This is the first that I have heard of it. Although looking at the shipping forecast, it might help on our run down to Plymouth tomorrow from the Solent. Gavin
