By looking at pics in various old Yamaha manuals...

By looking at pics in various old Yamaha manuals it seems that the serial number was last in this format in 1985. Older than I thought.

How can I learn year of Yamaha 9.9d outboard

2-stroke, thought to be about 8 or 10 years old.

I can see a serial number, and an engine block number: 68200 2Y.
Can I find the year from the serial number somewhere?

Downloaded trial version of PDF Toolbox. Opened the file with it. Although the print command in the menu is still greyed out, the print icon is not. So clicking on that...
