I got the transom off. Was surprisingly easy, though I was helped by the fact that the wood was soaking wet at the base and the hypalon practically fell away.

Transom Trouble

Boat : Avon 5.5 SIB - 1970's !!

Well, I went out to put a couple of coats of varnish on the transom last night. Started sanding the existing stuff back, ended up chiseling lumps of rotten plywood....

I had problems getting hold of parts to convert my Belgian Mariner 15 to tiller control a little while ago. I got the parts from the states in the end, worked out cheaper than getting from the UK.

Smooth side up on mine. Only the rear board has got any chamfer on it which fits in with the side of the tube.

You might have to post a photo. Are the boards original? I've seen a few with home...

Just got off the phone to a very helpful chap at Avon, this is the technique they used to assemble them;
1. Slightly inflate the tubes.
2. Assemble the main deck from the 3 boards and side...

Floorboard installation

Hello,

I've just acquired an old avon sportboat, and after spending the last week sanding and varnishing the floorboards (thank the lord for belt sanders) its time to put them back in the boat....
