They started to get a little rattly on the deceleration and then just started to grind. All the bearings sizes are available from most bearing supplier, they don't have the location pins to stop them...

Looks like a 90 -92 same (99%) as the yam 689 model from the early 80's. I've just rebuilt one with new electrics bearing and pistons. Pm if you need any help

You can bypass the controls by bypassing the control box, but make sure you connect a battery otherwise you could fry the rectifier or CDi unit. The Mariners are based and made by Yamaha 689 model...

ha ha ha ha, this is why I love secondhand outboards, fixed the air leak and couldn't work out why it wasn't starting. The bloody woodruff key had split in half and moved the timing out! Anyway...
