Festinghouse thanks or the advice but it is a bolt sheared off about 10mm below the surface, not a protruding stud, so I assume drilling with a stand drill to to ensure going vertical with the bolt...

mine is a 40Hp Yamaha manual start, so no battery

The green wires have AC on them not DC
so the frequency of the AC will increase with revs
so does the voltage and it soon popped a small 12v...
