Steering for my SIB

Hi all,

I have a 3.3m SIB and wondered if there is anyway of fitting a steering wheel and throttle control without spending too much money. I need to fold the boat up after each use.

Can steering be fitted to any out board and how easy is it to fit?

Thanks in advance

Paul

If you are handy it is easy enough to fit. Unless you can find a used kit it will be cost prohibitive. The gain is more comfortable long distance driving, the downfalls are lost space, added weight, and far longer setup times if the boat must be folded up at the end of the trip/day.

I am in the tiller boat catagory.

Hi there,

Been looking at these but they are bloody expensive in England 400+

Can get one from boats to go in the states for $99 but UPS want 500 to ship it so going to get my fabricator friend to make me one. The tube only costs 40.00!!

How to you attach a teleflex rotary system to the outboard and what parts do i need

thanks in advance

How many times have you used your boat so far? Setup and take down will almost double with a steering helm system. Are you sure you want and need it? Most people hate tillers at first, but after driving for a few hours learn to accept and even like a tiller.

I have used it several times but my motor weighs nearly 50kg and with me sat right at the back it seems a little rear heavy. The boat only takes me 20mins to set up. Can the steering cables be removed/disconnected from the motor easily?

I saw one on ebay this morning in amongst inflatable boats, second hand. Just had a quick look but cannot see it and I am on my way out but may be worth a scan to see if it is still there.

Thanks Phil,

Had a look but cant see anything. How do you get on with your Parsun?

philpot 28 October 2014 13:47

Very pleased with the Parsun Paul. Good starter, very smooth running and economical on fuel. At the end of the day it is a Yamaha so it should be good. I am looking at a small motor and thinking of another Parsun 2.5hp, already have a Mariner 2.5 with uprated carb taking it to 3.3hp but no forward/neutral so direct drive and for the fishing on the local rivers, it would be a handy thing to have.

I bought a second hand 9.9 4 stroke and have had nothing but hassle with it but everyone keeps telling me that they are good engines. Took it to a Parsun dealer for a once over but havnt had the chance to try it out yet due to crap tides and crapper weather here in not so sunny Devon!
