WTF thats what 60 miles? So more than double a cross channel swim? Has it been done before?

From her web site:

Quote:

The swim round the Isle of Wight is around 60 miles, and in terms of distance, is almost three times the length of the English Channel. Anna anticipates that she will be swimming for some 30 hours to complete the full circumnavigation. This will be the final swim in Anna's Five Island Swim Challenge in September 2013.

The Isle of Wight solo has been completed by just three people, the first of whom was Kevin Murphy in 1971. Kevin is the reigning King of the English Channel, having swam across the stretch 34 times, which is more than any other man.

Commenting on Anna's bid, Kevin said: "A swim in excess of 24 hours is among the toughest in the world, and there aren't many people who can do it.

Getting through The Needles is something of an adventure especially in the dark and the sea can be very rough off St Catherine's point. No solo swimmer has ever managed to get to Bembridge to catch the tide, which means we've all had six hours of swimming against it going nowhere before being able to make progress again."

I reckon this is a proper challenge, in a completely different league to joyriding around the coast in a RIB. :bolt:

I like the choice of charities too, so I'm in for 20. Would anybody care to match me?

Ive never seen a skinny sea swimmer.

Blubber is good, they even smear lard on themselves before setting off to maintain heat, dirty brutes.

That's epic. I thought I did well with a 4m rib....makes us all look a little wimpy....

Huge respect :-)
