It looks like summer may finally have arrived: Keep safe

With all the talk of kill cords in the other threads I thought it might be worth reiterating the RNLI's top safety tips for boaters so that we don't simply rely on the very important bit of string to solve all our woes!
  1. Wear a life jacket: timely as the Coastguard have just published statistics on the number of deaths that may have been avoided with one.
  2. Get trained
  3. Have a means to call for help
  4. Check your engine and fuel
  5. Check the weather and tide
  6. Tell someone where you are going

A very timely post

The RNLI also offers a free, friendly and confidential service that looks at the safety aspects of your boat - Advice on board - the term "SEA Check" is dead :)

Advice Onboard from the RNLI

Don't be afaid to ask for a Sea safety volunteeer who has specific RIB experience - many post on RIBnet and we are only too glad to have a chat and to get a butcher's at your "pride and joy"

You'd think that. I asked our bloke to give my SIB the once over. He thought I was taking the p1ss*...

Thing is - she has "the works" but he didn't get to find that out...

* I was kinda taking the p1ss...

Unfortunately that does happen with some of our less experienced colleagues who's sole background is in the "rag and stick" end of things.

Seriously if that is an issue with anyone - let the forum know and we will see what one of us can do - my claim to fame is that I got a RIB "expert" to visit Mick in Yorkshire
