Why aren't they black? What ever next? Then again Avon started all this years ago!!!

One wonders why they gave it the same name as one of their tyres...

Where do you seat 14 people on a 6m RIB? No mention of a CE category either, but then again it is Italian!

Do you think the CE category "B" is too much for this rib??

Cookee 01 August 2007 05:10

The RCD (Recreational Craft Directive) definition for a category B boat is

Category B - Offshore: Designed for offshore voyages where conditions up to, and including, wind force 8 and
significant wave heights up to, and including, 4m may be experienced.

So the question has to be would you go out in a 6 metre boat with 14 people on board (without enough seats so at least 8 will be sitting on the tubes) in a force 8 with wave heights of 4 metres?

Maybe I'm being cynical or something, but the only thing that the CE system adds to a boat is cost when the system is used like this. At the Southampton boat show last year we had two visits from the Trading standards people - the first to check our paperwork, signs etc for the RCD, and the second to bring round the first two inspectors for France, because until then the French had totally ignored the system!

We are proud of the fact as a manufacturer that our boats are correctly registered in appropriate categories.
