You might need to give a bit more detail.... if its a 30 yr old redcrest with a 2hp then its a con, if its a nearly new 7m sea rider with twin 150s then bite his hand off.

Re the avon above, its an adventurer, not a searider. They are very different boats. Search threads on here and you find out. If you are in the market for a ribcraft or avon. I guess you mean ribcraft or avon searider. There aren't many new seariders, most are ex commercial/military etc and second hand. A new one if priced is actually V Expensive!!!

Ribcraft vs Avon adventurer, is a bit like BMW vs Vauxhall. Both are good at what they do and are priced accordingly. Depends what you want though. I'd suggest going out on both and you will feel the difference. Just like a car.

(That Avon Adv above to me looks way overpriced, but who am i to say. However for 14k, you can get a much better boat that isnt a decade old and is a much more reputable make for that wedge!)

Re buying off here vs ebay. Whilst there are many reputable traders/people on here that others can vouch for, remember it is not really any better than ebay. Someone could easily create 4 or 5 identities on here and vouch for themselves etc.

Best bet for buying anything over a few grand is to spend a few hundred getting someone perhaps on here to go and inspect it, unless you really know what you are doing yourself.

Best of luck and welcome.

Take a look at this and you realise the Avon is waaaaaay too expensive.

This sold in the last few weeks. Osprey are similar in respect on here to Ribcraft and the boat was allegedly mint.

Might give you a clue to what you can get.

IMHO, though i am no oracle. !!!!! Pls Ask others too.

Ribeye is a bit like ford if avon adv is like vauxhall! (Pretty similar and people argue either way) They do what they do and some like them. A lot of people on here seem to be very in to their boats. They have either functional/commercial orientated boats that go out in anything and they don't care it's raining, or they pay quite a bit of money for some very nice seaworthy luxury ribs. They often use them commercially, use them a lot or just have a lot of money.

Avon adv, Ribeye, Valiant kind of hit the mass market, not so over enthusistic/nerdy ribbers, who just want a rib over a dory/hard boat as they are better in a sea. (cue those owners who will reply differently)

That example is fairly underpowered. 90hp on a 6m going 30 knots is slow.

The average imho on here for a 6m is 115-135hp
Our 6.3 Humber for example is a 175 and most
6.5s 150-175.
5.5m 75-90.
5m 60-75hp. But they are ballparks. If you are just fishing and plod out, it might suffice. For skiing or playing in the rough. It will not have the ooomph needed.

I need to get back to work.

This looks alright, better balance of engine and boat. Engine is a known good 2 stroke brand. Though doesn't say how many hours it has on it.

Rib itself I am not sure of in terms of brand. Looks like a deep v hull so should be ok. However it looks quite tidy and clean.

Others may tell you more re the brand.

Another nicely weighted boat with low hours.
