Its a RIB in my book, but its fair to say the styling is not to everybody's taste! Actually it probably caters well for exactly the sort of boating many people here do - although we would never admit it - because we (well probably not me) have 'serious' boats that could go out in F8.

Its a RIB - but the blurb is great ;

It has a very spacious cabin with a bed large enough to accommodate three people.......

Actually, if I was in the market for a cruising sleeper I'd been looking at it. I think it has a few things going for it.

Totally agree , very practical use of space - but just not 'sporty' or 'RIB' looking enough for me.

Thanks for the link to the review. I think it makes a cracking weekender, if that is what you are after it would probably feature high up on the list. A slight concern for me would be the use of Alpha Romeo engines. Hopefully they have improved their reliability from my memories of the brand but I think I would wait and see how it plays out before splashing the cash on this one.

I have read the blurb in English and Italian and am dissatisfied with the explanation of techie details. What size tubes does it have, for example?

I also think it is pretty ugly.

If you talk Italian ribs, I would prefer a Mar.co (no cabin, however), or a Sacs Orgasmo.

I've just been looking at the online spec for these, and after a little poking around, I finally found the Tech. Spec.

If you visit the Formenti website and select the 73 Skydeck Inboard, at the top under where it says ZAR 73 are some options, one being the Tech Spec. and I can confidently tell you that the tubes are 53cm

. This is after I spent 5 mins looking for the spec on the 73 Outboard model

We have delivered/coached on board most of the boats in the range and in particular hand over to/train new members on the myboatshare boat.

It is now available as an outboard version:

Doug - you post started really well... but it didn't come to the "reasoned opinion" I was hoping we would hear. I realise you have a slight vested interest not to slag it off, but:

1. how do you feel it handles the waves compared to say a traditional rib - hows the ride/handling
2. are you impressed or disappointed with the finish quality
3. its obviously targeted at the weekender market - do you think they have done a good job, or have they made any compromises that have gone too far.
4. if someone came on PB2 course with you looking to buy a boat for "family fun", "weekend cruising" in reasonable conditions, but perhaps going further afield (cruising to channel islands, scilies, scottish isles) do you think you would automatically suggest this/ encourage it if they brought it up/ neither encourage or discourage it/ or actively suggest they look elsewhere?
5. Do you think that costing something around 70k it is reasonable?

That Orgasmo is stunning. Real shame they didn't do something about the interior

Yes, stunning. The girls on the Strider are not half bad either.
Talking about Sacs reminds me, when I was selling my hard boat (a Grady White), this guy who owned Sacs was at the same yard looking for a largish Grady White. I remember asking whether he was dissatisfied with his ribs. Can't remember the answer, tho., or whether he bought one.

I wouldn't worry unduly about an Alfa Romeo diesel. It's a FIAT. Don't worry about that either because FIAT supply all diesel engines to Vauxhall/Opel (with the exception of the 1.7 which is the base for the Cummins/Mercruiser diesel)and Saab. Personally I did 185,000 miles in my 1.7 FIAT Uno nearly 20 years ago and the only mechanical fault it suffered was when the stupid driver let it run out of diesel - 3 times!!!!

I know a chap who moves bodies around the country (legally) and has done 260,000 miles in his FIAT Ducato and some relatives of ours who have a furniture making business in Garda in Italy use an IVECO Daily and have done over 300,000 miles in the last 3 years using the same engine as the Ducato.

Hands up all those who will travel 300,000 miles in the next 3 years on their boats.

especially for the vans/trucks, however, not so good carwise for use in high mountains. we burned out the turbo on ours during the first year, going up and down (about 3,000 feet) twice a day.
