Zapcat in Portsmouth harbour?

I'm just pondering - feeling inspired by Grays and BenCs new toy! Does anyone know if one would be allowed to take a Zapcat accross Portsmouth harbour (ie if you launched at the camber slip). I know they're funny about jet skies....would a zapcat be classed as a pwc?

PWC could be classed as any small vessel couldn't it?

Phone up QHM and ask direct?

Question: In exactly what way are they "funny about jetski's", and how did they go about it?

Monterey has been trying for years to ban jetskis (generally termed "thrill craft") from the Sanctuary - originally they banned motorized craft with seating for 2 or fewer people, but the PWC's got bigger, with seating for up to 4.
They (the Sanctuary) have come up with a new plan, but I don't recall what it was. I'll post it if and when I find it.

They are funny in that you are not allowed "PWC" in Portsmouth Harbour, the only exception being the Harbour Masters patrol jetski. Portsmouth Harbour is very strict about everything - they have several police patrols always on the water. I once saw a yacht being "pulled over" just out of the harbour becasue is was just outside of the small boats channel. The police take it very seriously; on that occastion they had all the blue lights flashing.

There are so many big boys in and out of the harbour(ferries, Naval traffic) that QHM must be very busy monitoring everything.

They are very courteous regarding leisure enquiries also. Think this is the number 023 92 723124. (Safety is a big concern of theirs for sure).

Zapcat

If you have a VHF its very simple to get permission on channel 11 to cross from Camber to Ballast. They have always been helpful in my experience and can be quite precise about ferry movements. Today they asked me to wait for 2 minutes and in that time a navy ship came in and a ferry crossed. They called me back to tell me it was clear. Gavin

Indeed; I cross here everytime I take my boat out. I was thinking though that QHM might not be too happy with a zapcat in the harbour. Looks like if I want to know I'll have to give him a ring.

You can use a PWC inside Portsmouth hourbour if its registered with the QHM, you stick to the speed limit and inform QHM of your movements across shipping lanes.

If I were you I would class a zapcat as a RIB, lets be honest its not a jet ski is it.

If you dont ask they cant say no, why give them the cahnce to say no out of hand over the phone?
