yamaha 90 or 115 on a ribcraft 5.40...

Hello,
i'm planning to buy a new engine (second hand) for my ribcraft 5.40.
right now i've a 2 stroke mariner 75 hp, i'm looking for a 2 stroke (i prefer 2 stroke) 90 or 115 hp.
i would like to know if someone can tell me either consomption with a 90 or 115 yamaha V4 2 stroke on that boat.
115 is heavier than the 90, so i'm not sure it's really valuable,

The V4 is quite a thirsty motor over the 3 pot 90. Your trouble will be finding a decent 90 though as they are few and far between.

yes, i also read that 115 is a thirsty motor.
well just have to find the right candidate.
or else, anyone use a HDTI Tohatsu or E tech evinrude?

130 Etec, I think 90 would be disappointing performance wise & the 130 weighs the same as the 115 so daft not to go with the extra hp. The DI would be more economical than the carbed 2s.

as above, a 90 will be gutless. very deep hull seaworthy hull. 28 knots max. really need 115 min

28 knots??? i already reach 32 with my "old" 75 mariner.
130 is not the same price, i don't need that much, i guess

Depend what you want to do with it.....

How many people & kit normally on board?
Water skiing / wake boarding / water toys?
Diving / lots of kit?
Long distance cruising / short blasts?

Need to take all the above into account

I owned a RC5.45 with a Merc 90 2stroke
Regularly 3up , water skied, and cruised across the channel. Found it was excellent for us.

I agree, the two stroke a fair bit more get up and go....Maximus had a 75 Merc four stroke on his beast and it could barely outrun a moving wave. if that's acceptable then go for it!! as mentioned previously the 130 e-tec transformed it completely. it was mental but very good on fuel. go for a higher HP lump!

Our RC5.3 does 38kts three up with a Suzuki 4st 90

Gutless? unless the 0.1m makes a difference?

entirely different hull. 545 is a very beamy deep V hull . Nothing like a 5.3 but of course you know that!

I had a RC5.45 with a Yamaha 90 for about 3 years - a superb combination. Good for about 33knots and at least 1nm/l unless you thrashed it towing etc. More than adequate for towing toys and wakeboards. I think it was a 17" pitch prop but I think a 15" could have gone even better on it.

It sat quite low by the stern when at rest though so I'd wonder about anything much heavier on the back. I did have twin batteries at the rear and an aux so putting your battery up forward might offset a bit of extra weight on the transom.

You'll struggle to find a fresh Yamaha 90 though - best 2stroke OB ever made IMHO.

i have a proposition overhere for a great 115 yamaha V4 , 2 stroke.
i've read a lot about the consumption of this engine, but nothing very precise, so i wonder if anyone knows the consomption of this engine on a Ribraft 5.45 or 5.80 , or any equivalent rib?

Stumbled across what looks like a mint 2004 Yammie 90hp here. Looks very nice. Do your checks though... scammers, etc. Seller has been posting since 2009 and price looks right (Bournemouth area)

do you have an idea about liter/Nautic Mile consumption with a V4?
with my 75 Mariner 2 stroke it's 1.5 to 1.8 Liter /Mile.
