Yacht - 27 foot Medway, anyone heard of them?

Considering taking up sailing I know this is not the place to ask but you chaps since a lot experts live here!

Has anyone ever heard of a Medway 27 foot? I know there is a Westerly Medway but its a lot bigger.

From what I can gather there were only about 12 of these made so maybe not a great idea (spares resale etec.) but worth considering I guess. I think this is a pic of it in the fore ground.

looks like some sort of quater or half tonner, not heard of them, but if it's local to bangor chances are ill have seen it.....

edit: talk at BYC/RUYC of getting a small keelboat series going so if your interested in racing it might be worth holding out and see what they come up with....

What are you wanting to do? Day trips, cruising, a bit of racing? What's your budget and experience?

I like the idea of racing to get the most out of the boat in that it would 'force' me to use it once a week. But I would not be competitive and coming in last would not bother me.
I see this boat as a tester to learn how to sail on. A mate has a Beneteau first 21 and I like it a lot, big roomy cockpit makes for sociable time on the water. I love the rib but at speed there is not much chatting!

Probably some day trips with the family but I have resigned myself that they dont like the water as much as me so I might as well have one night a week out with some mates messing about on the boat dressed up as racing!

I see the cockpit as a sail storage area and somewhere out off the rain if the family is with me. Would have no plans to do a West Coast Cruise for the foreseeable future.

Budget wise around £4k so not enough for a Beneteau 21! Happy to take on a project within reason - dont mind spending time on it but would not want to pour money into it.

Hunter Impala's are cracking boats, they can cruise and they also race well. Alternatively the smaller Sonata is also a lot of bang for the buck.

Lots of 2nd hand boats on the market, you'll get a great deal. I'll keep an eye out if anything good pops up.

Your plan is bang on for getting the most out of your sailing, you'll be amazed how quickly you may find yourself creeping up the rankings when racing.

Cheers Gordy

One more to consider! Not hung up on any model, will try to get crewing (if I can ) next season and see what I like.

Will also try to get a spot on an RYA competent crew course or Skipper if I can get one organised over a couple of weekends.
