good points

Some very valid points there, all taken on board.
It will be my first rib so don't really want to get it to wrong!!
May wait till someone has had one in the water for a month or so.

Having speant a good few hours with the guys at Redbay last week, if I had the money, one of theirs would be my first choice.
The new 6.5m Hurricane looks very nice and is well priced at 24,950 with 150hp Evinrude and trailer but out of my range this time round.

Ah well will just have to play on them at shows and meets!!

Regards

P.S when you say local to us do you meanmy mate Jez and his team?

how can they sell them so much cheaper and still make a profit?

The price & quality seems to be the main concern here. I know for a fact that the hull for the x-rib (not falcon) is manufactured in the UK by a major manufacturer. Laurence Lock from Barnet Marine told me this and it was the basis for me placing my order. He also said that the build quality would not be an issue as they are very strong boats constructed to commercial spec. He is an honest guy and this information must be correct as I have signed a contract for the supply of the boat on these grounds. Also the boat comes with 2 yrs warranty.

How do X-rib make a profit on a boat like this for the price? The simple answer is that they don't. The profit is made with the engine and extras. Take the following prices for optional extras for example: set of 3 nav lights 150, Bench seat 895, flare boxes 175, additional rubber strakes 695. I guess they have to make their profit somewhere. When the prices are all added up the boat is still great value, but for those of you who want to make a real killing, kitting out the boat yourself will work out cheaper.

I know I'm probably biased as I have one on order but I'm only going on the info I have as I haven't driven the boat yet. that will be the REAL test.

My friend has a tornado 585/ merc opti 135 & the boat i have on order is an x-rib 600/ merc opti 135. Will test both against each other and post results.

I guess the pertinent question to ask Laurence Lock is why should I buy a Tornado instead of an X-Rib. We bought our boat off Laurence, and he does know his stuff, although is also a good salesman... If you get the chance to ask, I would be interested to know the answer!

Jon Brooks..... Jaz and his motely crew may well be well qualified and able boat fitters but i'd tend to use the less commercial smaller companies local to the Whitstable/Herne bay area, there are lots around who will undertake all sorts of jobs from steel work to marine electronics if you search them out, PM me if you want some more specific details of who's who.
