Wreck on the beach

This rib was being launched yesterday and the only reason they didn't put to sea was, the van they were using to back the trailer into the sea as the tide came in, ended up with water half way up the doors and the engine stopped. A tractor had to be found to pull the van out...just a small white joiners van, not even transit sized. The van was towed away and they just pulled the rib in as far as the shore and tied the rope to a rock and have left it at high water mark. The rusting unbraked trailer with missing rollers and only one wheel arch is left in the car park.

Back of the engine looks melted?? Possibly they were just taking it for a test drive?

Looks more like Royal Navy target practice. Absolutely shocking. No redeemable or salvageable features. The battery terminals (aka crocodile clips) say it all!

And they have managed to get the solar panel setup!

This makes me feel bad, as mine has stayed in the garage ever since purchase!

Joking aside - I dont know how people could take this to sea!

If I had to I think I would actually prefer to go to sea in the van than the boat.

What exactly is the problem with it?

It actually looks okay if a little tatty. So it's got a flat battery - what's wrong with using jump leads from another battery to start the engine?

What else is wrong with it then? The steering helm looks brand new, the bracket is fitted backwards so the bezel won't fit but it's perfectly safe.
Hull and tubes look okay.

The engine has had a fibreglass repair to the cowl.. Oh no!

Safety at sea is a big consideration and common sense. Some have it and others don't.

I've no problem whatsoever with anyone putting to sea in whatever they choose, the sea (at least in the uk) is one of the least regulated "free" places to go. I'm a big believer in Darwin👍......however it's the poor sods that have to turn out to pull the Darwinian rejects out of the brown stuff that concern me, and us that have to pay for them. Just think, whilst the cavalry are out rescuing the numpties, they aren't looking out for the rest of us who act responsibly.
All just IMHO of course

Fortunately they didn't make it to Sea 🤔 maybe we should give him a few tips on launching Yorkshire style 👍

Van gets stuck in the sand and gets dunked just trying to launch. So far so good.

You say start engine from auxilliary battery as main battery is drained? For all we know that is the main battery! Console and engine looks a complete mess. Judging by what we can see wiring will be like alphabet spaghetti, steering is probably seized and tubes look under-inflated. I doubt they have any safety gear, auxilliary engine, VHF, flares, etc.

After reading numerous MAIB reports of sinkings, fatalities and near misses over the years, this has all the hallmarks of an accident waiting to happen.
