Eateries on Windermere

You could give Storrs Hall Hotel a ring, they are on East side of lake just south of the Ferry Nab launch. A couple of years ago they went very expensive and may now have a good restaurant. They have a pier, and a helipad !

There is NOWHERE worse than the USA for legal claims but they still allow people to enjoy themselves!

As to J. G. Parry-Thomas I didn't include him because it was a world record attempt not just a joy ride down the beach!

Hi Stuart

How long have you had that 8.4 Searider? I went out on one in Anglesey last week. There's a guy up there who runs charter trips to watch seals, porpoises etc. and he bought it about a year ago from Portsmouth apparently. Towed it up to Anglesey with a Hilux!! The boat was originally used as a rescue craft on the Mersey in case a plane went down from Speke airport. He's fitted an Iveco 400+hp engine (think he said 480hp??) and he gets 45knts out of it. Must admit it appeared to be an awesome bit of kit.

Talking of Avon not many people here seem to have one - they used to be THE boat to have - they are still made in Llanelli but are now owned by Zodiac - a few years ago they bought out Zodiac but has now gone full circle again!

I know a few boys who work there and the quality is second to none - I did try to buy one cheap straight from the factory but nothing doing!

It seems Avon are doing more on the commercial side now and Bombard/Zodiac cater for the domestic market. One important point - Avon still use hypalon but the others use PU!

Yes, that's always surprised me, although when you get down to the 4m class there's a hell of a lot of Seariders on the forum, most of which seem to be in various states of renovation and not used on the water very much!

I think in the bigger size classes the Avon price premium seems to be a limiting factor if it's a case of buying new. I agree, I think the build quality is superb and I adore my little RIB and its awesome seakeeping characteristics. And, being a patriot like you, I was more than happy to contribute to the Welsh economy
