Looks like a 15hp mercury outboard powerhead. Same concept as these: http://www.mercurymarine.com/engines...jet-drives.php

If it is a 15hp I,d imagine it should go reasonaly well. The impellar is a very tight fit and scrapes and am at a loss as to how to fix it.Anyone know anything about water jet impellars or is this normal for it to rub/scrape metal to metal as the tolerance is very small to get a good fit ?

Hi peter from experiance after I had truly destroyed 2 impellors with stones I think they should be a very very close fit, but not touching. Thats why they cost me so much to replace. On the modern jetskis there is a 'wear ring' built in . Basically it means that when the impellor spins less than perfectly you wear away a 50 part & not a 300 impellor or even more expensive tunnel.

Possibly the bearings are stuffed on the shaft meaning its not turning centrally ?

Any intolerance in the gap means the pump runs very inefficiently - this was seen on a mates Jet drive boat that was a 'cheap deal' until he had to get the whole lot machined up to tolerance.

I'm sure there will be more knowledge on here soon.

It does need further investigation i know before i try it out so hopefully someone will help with info.I am happy as i bought it knowing it had this problem as i noticed it and he happily dropped the original price by 130 I realise it may cost more(although the impeelar looks ok to my eye) to fix but will end up with a fun little unit .I can remove the nut that hold the impellar on and do have some pullers but not one i think that will fit.

looking at the intake grilles damage it's obviously had a lot ofstugg go through it. big or hard enough stuff to bend the grile? that would take bits off the umpeelor tayher than add to it, Theres not something stuck in the wear ring ?
