That sounds the best thing to do. What a quality service

Malthouse, keep the community spirit going as long as you can, I say, cos the alternative is crappier. Well done you.

I hope nothing will go wrong with this because I can see what you are trying to do, it's a great thing on paper and all credit to you for offering to do it.

I don't think that making the service free will help you defend any claims and you could end up searching the harbour to make sure that you haven't missed any on your list (perhaps the harbour is tiny?). I would think about putting in a few more disclaimers if I were you!

I think you're paranoid.

Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they aren't out to get you (Kurt Cobain).

The people with paranoia are the ones who lack the imagination to work out what is really going on. (Malthouse).

When I pump my Orkney out I check the other few boats moored near me and pump them out, they do the same for me to.

The same thing happens at our harbour - we all look after each other. If my boat isn't on the mooring, or if the auto-bilge pumps seem to be running for too long, I often get a phone call to let me know something may be amiss.

I think that if you charge for the service, then you may well open up a can of worms. Having said that, I'll have a look at boats as I'm passing in mine - so none of the boats will be aground/dry so I wouldn't open a bung or trunks to drain it anyway - but I'll happily pump out a boat on the way to my mooring.

Isn't this what good harbour/marina life is like? As long as Malthouse states that it's a free, no guarantee service so there's no come backs for him, I think it's a good sign in crappy times.

There's a Slip on the Fylde coast, mostly used by the local fishing club. It's a hell of a place though and you do need a tractor to survive the beach. People try it with 4X4's and get stuck and up until last year someone from the fishing club would pull them out with one of the tractors. Not anymore as the last time this happened they failed in trying to pull the car out. The owner tried to sue them! So they say they will just launch on by now.
