Ohh whats the prize for the biggest rip off ? A rib net flag I suggest ?

In my early days I got charged 126 for a spark plug for a mariner 4hp 4 stroke.

Long story as to why but that's what it cost me

The same engineers then charged me 160 to repair a fault with a Mariner 60hp 2 stroke, claiming to have replaced 3 plugs and removed/stripped carbs which had water in them. It then went back with the same fault 24 hours later to be told the fuel was again water damaged and must have been caused by my tank. Charged another 80 to strip carbs then shown running on their tank.

Total 240 repair bill.

I got it home. Ran it up same fault happened. Turned out to be a poor battery terminal connection which although started the motor came dis-attached during running causing all the problems by not having the correct charge going through it.

I checked the spark plugs and they had not been changed, neither was the carbs removed at all. My bet is they ran it up (with their own battery connections) and it ran perfect so did nothing to it. When we ran it up (using poor connections) it was still the same. They saw us coming.... They even went to the extreme of showing me his work time log when I questioned what they had actually done, along with showing me the fuel which came out (adding some water to it of course) which they had kept for 24 hours to show me... Yeah ok

So in total thats 366 for a spark plug and battery terminal

I win ?

I agree but I still see the engineers every day so I'm keeping quiet on that one... Now they know I'm trade but it makes you worry for the general "customer"

worst rip offs are when the customer is in a desparate situation ,eg broken down perhaps or on holiday or a part that is only availible through them or the main dealer , a lot of so called engineers or mechanics are either out to rip people off in the first place or are just crap at their job ,but the rest for me goes with that old saying ,,

A fool and his money is easily parted ,,

By doing a Honest days work,,lol

take yesterday as an example, my daughter called said that her car was smoking from under the bonnet she had just been qoted at a local garage 800.plus twat for a new cylinder head gasket fitting ,car would need to be left with the garage for about 4/5 days as the cylinder head would need to come off and skimming ect ,i had a look at it and all it was was the Rocker/cam shaft gasket that was weeping oil onto the exhaust manifold and causing the smoke,
2 hours later i had it sorted including going for a new gasket which was a tenner ,,

Brave. Keep looking over your shoulder whilst browsing, don't browse with a mirror behind you, log out when you're done...
