Who made this console?

Hi all,

Can anyone tell me what make of console this is please? It's on a Tohatsu 6.5 RIB but I have contacted the builder (Porters) and it's not one of theirs apparently.

Reason for asking is that I need a new screen. The screen has double curvature so I'm assuming it was made using some type of male mould - therefore it's probably going to be a lot cheaper to find the original manufacturer rather than asking a screen company to start from scratch.

Cheers, John

There must be some connection with Porters, that's where I got mine from and yours looks almost identical, other than two areas. The suicide seat on mine is recessed at the sides rather than flush. Mine also does not have the foot rest inset like yours. I bet the screen profile is the same.

Good Luck

Andy

Mistake

Hi Andy,

I've just re-checked my email and it is a Porters console!...but Ian Porter does not remember making any screens like mine. He thinks it is a one off and Havant Signs and Plastics may have done it.

Could you put up a photo of your console please? Maybe it's possible to get a more simple (cheaper) screen made with single curvature.

I'll try the Havant guys but if anyone has any other options for screen manufacturers that would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, John

Havant Signs and Plastics are really helpful, but did move a year or so ago and could have had a clear out of old Moulds etc.

Oh, and they are now called Hampshire Signs and Plastics.

Robert is the guy to talk to.

The Console is similar, but subtly different to the one shown in this now very old image with Mark Halliday's Porter 6 in the middle.

As you can see he has a completely different screen on it which I'd assume is the standard one.

Thanks

Thanks Nasher!

I've just emailed Hampshire signs.

That console does look similar, but different. Looks like it's on one of their BWM based RIBs.

If anyone has a photo of the Tohatsu RIB console with it's 'standard' screen that would be most helpful!

Thanks,

John

I just spent a good 20mins looking for an image I knew I had of Pete7's old Tohatsu 6.5, only to remember when I saw it that he had a single Jockey type console.

But I'm going to post it anyway now I've made the effort

If all else fails - Nugent on here makes them. I sent him my old broken screen and he made a fantastic replacement in a few days for a very reasonable price!

I fitted one of those screens to a Tohatsu RIB, I also contracted Porters and they put me in touch with Tohatsu in Lymington who supplied me with one. This was about 10 years ago and I am sure that the chap at Tohatsu said I was lucky as that was the last one they had as they no longer are producing that console.

I cannot find any paper work to give you more info and the boat is long since sold.

Correct re Tohatsu - I bought their moulds a couple of years ago from them. The boat building was never profitable for them - was simply to try and sell more engines. However, the majority of consoles fitted were Ian Porter’s designs (he built all the Tohatsu boats for them).

Any decent sign shop should be able to knock one of these up.
