Wow!!!

Sounds like you people have some of the same restrictions and steep costs involved in accessing inland lakes that we do here in Manitoba.

I can think of at least 4 of the busier launching spots (and there might be even more) in Manitoba where we'd have to pay upwards of $4 - $8 CDN (~ 2-4 pounds) to use a boat ramp. When you consider that Manitoba only has about 100,000 lakes, those 4 launching spots (where you have to pay through the nose) represent a severe impediment in our overall access to lakes.

I can definitely relate.

There's a small lake at Rother Valley near Rotherham that you can use for 30 mins - although you usually get around 45-50 mins, for an engine test. They charge 8.00 (from memory). You have to book it in advance though.

That is correct - Its is Rother Valley Watersports 01142 471 452 and press 1 for Watersports centre. "Engine test" is the acceptable term.

It is a reasonably sized lake with easy slip entry. Watch out for slipping on duck and swan poo on the pontoons !
You can only use from 0830 to 0900 hrs and they are closed late Nov until March (15th?) You need insurance evidence and may be asked to register - with a photo and copy of your insurance certificate for them to keep.
