Where's your number one cruising ground...?

Got a new 6M rib on the way and I'm looking for suggestions on where to use it...

What's your hidden gem? Where's that place you know and love that has an easy launch, great cruising grounds, that cracking pub nearby or perfect beach for the family?

List em up for all to enjoy - ideally with launching point and suggested stops or end points?

Ideally launches that have concrete slips for my 5 series rather than muddy beaches!

Cheers

Jim

you can't have an ideal boating place without mentioning a few places up here.

oban is brill (easdale rib rendezvous and corryvreckan).
loch lomond is a must see when you are up here, you pass it on way to Oban!
kyles of bute, epic scenery.
portavadie
tarbet

launching isn't an issue, plenty of slips around the place depending on where you are. everywhere above you can stop and go ashore for food etc.

some local vids i've taken through the years.

(from kip marina)

(bottom of Kyle of Bute and Portavadie round the corner, playing with the dolphin)

(Easdale/Corryvreckan)

(Loch Lomond)

(Loch Lomond)

cheers

Jim,as you live in the midlands, the world's your lobster. For a steady breaker in/easy launch you cant beat the Menai, see Chris at Ty Calch. You can play in the straits & get used to the boat, stay away from the swellies unless you are confident in what you're doing. After that, we tend to head west, be it Scotland or Wales. Personally I think you struggle to beat western Scotland (out of midge season). Northern France makes for a nice change of scenery & food, especially for 5 weeks

I had an incredible time in Cornwall - Salcombe, Polperro, Looe etc. Launched from Plymouth where there are lots of places to stay.

i am a little biased as my mom and dad now live there but we are down in brixham every other weekend and makes for some nice cruising ground, can hop over the bay to torquay for a night on the piss or head round to exmouth to the restaurant on the river or go the other way to dartmouth, salcome or further if wanted.

Some nice secluded beaches if wanted and can launch all states of the tide (avoid really low tide as there is a little drop off but still dooable). can leave the boat in the marina and have toilets/showers. only thing that is a bit of a joke is the parking prices there but i buy a MDL car park pass so dont have to worry about it now.

From the midlands, the north east isn't a bad run. Launch at Beadnell Bay (beach launch but there is a tractor service and you aren't permitted to use your own car) or Seahouses for the Farne islands with all the seals. Further north is Eyemouth and St Abbs which have some nice coves and bays to explore. The diving is good too.

The Jurrasic coast from Poole westward, studland bay - swanage and swanage bay - durlston head and lighthouse + sea birds + dolphins - rock climbers - bat cave - dancing ledge - winspit - seacombe - st aldheims head - chapmans pool - kimmeridge - war barrow bay - mupe bay - lulworth cover - durdle door - the cow and calf - weymouth - portland - etc etc

not to mention poole harbour and the many islands + wareham river.

Going east, sandbanks, bournemouth pier and beaches - christchurch harbour, mudeford, isle of wight, needles - lymington, yarmouth, beulieu river, cowes, souhtampton and solent.

On a nice day in the summer at the weekend you will probbaly find me in chapmans pool, my favouritr place by far as its usually very quiet.

Easdale just south of oban offers cruising to all standards.

some have already mentioned the Easdale RIB Rendezvous but it is also worth noting the Scottish SIB meet also used the same area. Easdale offers a very sheltered harbour, direct access to spectacular cruising grounds to all standards. You can obtain cruising advice from ourselves Seafari who run RIBs from Easdale but there are also many local RIBs in the area.
You can rent a cottage or take B&B.
The main drawback is fuel. It has to be obtained at Oban. You either bring a few jerrycans or visit Puffin Divers who have alongside petrol in Oban.

Easdale RIB Rendezvous - Home has a wealth of information

Ok Ok don't rub it in I will see what the Med offers this year and let you know if it's another for your bucket list. Looks like some nice islands to explore off the coast
