Where to put a door trap on my Ribcraft 5.40?

Hello,
i recently bought a ribcraft 5.45 , now time is coming to fit it out, i was thinking of putting 1 or 2 door trap on the desk (Caisson coffre de rangement à 3 tiroirs porte carénée | eBay) but there are many stingers into the hull, i don't really one to cut the desk and find a stinger, do anybody where i can cut the desk with the minimum risk to find a stinger?

Suggest you speak to Ribcraft in Yeovil before you go anywhere near the deck with an angle grinder!

They'll be able to advise where the stringers are on the 545 and if there are any voids you can cut into. Is there a specific reason you want to fit these storage lockers in the deck? Other than the bow anchor locker, I'd look to store anything else in the console or under the seats and maintain the integrity of the deck.

If you mean deck and stringers, I'd strongly suggest you ring Charlie Chan of Ribcraft on (UK) 01935974290 for that one. He's always helpful.

yes i will give a phone call, i'm just missing storage place, that's why a would like to do this .

Spot on! Retro fitting is a complicated fix IF you mess up!

I don't know about Ribcraft, but my experience of small engineering companies is that their staff aren't necessarily the best at communicating with foreigners, even if the foreigner has conversational english: the phone is never the best means of communication, accents make things harder to follow, and engineery people love engineery terms - which nobody teaches in school english classes!

So, whilst call Ribcraft is good advice, I'd be looking to check my understanding of what they tell me. Anyone know if a stud detector (as used for finding studs in plasterboard walls) would find the stringers?

See if they can send you an engineering drawing of the area you're interested in cutting into. Should show what you need to know.
