Where to go on the Isle of Wight..

hi, the weather looks good for tomorrow, will be launching from Langstone harbour.. the question is... where to go on the IOW? what is there to do? nice beaches, anything really..
any help appreciated...

Launching from Langstone, I'd go to Priory Bay - great beach, then nip to the Pilot Boat in Bembridge for a beer.

priory bay does look lovely, i think that might be a winner... maybe a bbq on the beach with fresh mackies

Ryde or Cowes are always easy, or go on down to the Folly inn.

Yarmouth or Ventnor are good for a day out of your looking to go further afield. Good pub grub as well. Ventnor, tide depending.

Was out today and went around to whitecliff bay where it was idyllic

looks great, only moved to hampshire a few months ago and never been to the IOW, looking forward to it a lot...

But for those not familiar with the area it's probably worth mentioning that Ryde is tidal. Access is something like HW+/-2 hours, maybe a little more but not much.

Same for Bembridge, which has a sand bar at the harbour entrance out near st Helen's fort, and needs care around low water, then follow the buoyed channel in. Plenty of info on the harbour's website and of course a chart

Food at the pilot boat inn is good

As long as you stick to the channel, on neaps you are ok to go to the folly in smaller boats any stage of tide (done it at low water in the fletcher). Ryde - no way- it's super tidal and John is spot on with his warning. The sand dries for maybe half a mile or more out - get stuck on that and you are going nowhere til next high water!

we will be heading out on the rising tide from langstone... so should be ok when we get over (pausing for a little fishing) may well have a picnic on the beach, have navionocs gold on board so should be ok for drying out bits.

It's always worth talking to the harbour master or marina when you turn up and they ask for their payment. Ask them how long you can stay for and any other information you need.

just a quick update, popped across yesterday and had a little time on the beach.. tried fishing for mackies at a few points on the way there and back and unusually got nowt....
thanks for the pointers on the IOW... maybe next nice day ill go round it..

Normally you can get mackerel off No Man's Land Fort, but not seemingly as bountiful this year (or I have duff feathers!)

Been very hit and miss this year. Look for birds working the surface or try away from the other boats.

I found no mans land pretty bad last year too, odd because the year before it was absolutely crazy the amount of mackers that leapt on literally anything shiny.

i got quite a few just outside langstone.. but nothing yesterday.. i hear no mans land is good for bass as well? i havent really got to grips with bass from the boat, shore is different...
so any tips would be appreciated.
