Pol, Big guys the place you are referring to is Atlantic Ribs run by Tim Hedley at Bellanoch. I was in at Tim's last week when i was up and as you say he usually has many ribs on site but only two old SR4's last week. He has many contacts and a big part of his business is sorcing ribs for people at good prices. If you know what you want he's the man to sorce it.

Viewing different RIBs in Scotland

The Easdale RIB Rendezvous (30 April/1st May) currently has 42 RIBs registered. Smallest at around 4.0m, largest at 11m but the majority in the range 5 to 7m
Various RIB manufacturers, various engine manufacturers and sizes.

The Easdale RIB Rendezvous is just a RIB cruising event with a 'social'

see www.easdaleRIBrendezvous.org.uk

Hi phil , I was in the bosuns locker at south queensferry today and they have just got in a nice shiny new avon searider 5.4 .
they also sell rib x and zodiac ribs but don't carry much stock .

Also at south queensferry are ferry marine and they do northcraft ribs but you can save a couple of grand by going direct to northcraft.

If you're based in Ullapool, then I'd have thought you would be looking for a boat that will give a dry-ride, and is able to cope with the rough stuff. Kind of par for the course considering a short distance out of Loch Broom and you're into the Minch!

I'm in Ullapool heading to Lewis around the last two weeks of July, date to be confirmed. I'll be hauling a RIBcraft 4.8m commercial if you want to check it out.

Quick summary (based on my experience of boat and engine dealers in this part of the world)!

Mackay Marine (Aberdeen) are effectively a commercial sales and service agent. They are an approved Avon repairer, and also deal in Zodiac Mil/Pro. Also main Yamaha sales agent. Limited supply of used engines in stock. Graham the owner is very knowledgable, but don't be surprised if he doesn't return emails... his work is almost entirely oil-support fast rescue craft and he's always out the door with work.

Caley Marina (Inverness) are Avon and Yamaha dealer. Has repair facility/workshop and decent chandlery. Again, difficult to get emails and queries answered. They seem to be more geared for hard-boats, yachts, etc.

Gael Force Marine (Inverness) are a well-stocked chandlery, outboard repair and sales agent. Seem to specialise in Suzuki and Honda outboards. They can also source Tohatsu spares. Also have mail-order service which is great for things like impellers, stainless steel bolts, etc. Can recommend.

Sea and Shore (Dundee). Mariner engine and Raider boat sales. Euan, the owner is knowledgable and does the marine servicing side. Has some engines for resale. Used to be a Zodiac dealer - but I don't think that's the case any more.

Bosun's Locker (Edinburgh) has just merged with FYM (Grangemouth). They're an Avon, Zodiac and RibX dealer, and supply all the main engine brands. Limited selection of used engines and RIBs for sale. Expensive in my opinion.
http://www.bosuns.co.uk/

YamPower (Glasgow) are a Premier Zodiac and Yamaha dealer. Very knowledgable, but priced for top-end of the market. For example Zodiac Pro 550 and Yamaha 70hp for 21k.

Clyde Outboard Services (Gourock) is a small business run by Cameron. He can source new and second-hand Honda and Tohatsu engines. Again, very knowledgable and always returns emails and phone calls. Can recommend.

re clyde outboard services- Cameron services my engines and infact mines is going in friday for the pre season service on both my 4 strokes.

i was in his new shop the other day there and i can confirm there is no ribs there to view so don't waste your time going there for that reason. he is planning on doing some boats at some point and i think ribs maybe on the cards but you can't go view them there at this point. if you want service work done though-very good guy.

when i was looking for ribs not long ago the only place i found was FYM and northcraft via ferrymarine. they had a few on display you can have a look at but not a vast range.

the last time i was in yampower they only had room for 1 display boat-may well have expanded since i was there?

if your buying a new boat why not get a bus down south, maybe worth it if your planning a large investment?

also maybe just go look at anything local to you that is for sale privately and get a feel for sie etc you want-never know you might find "the one".

couple of other long shot options are prossers marine and the 3 main shops in balloch-loch lomond marina, eddie crossan outboards and the jetski shop next to it. TBH though as a frequent passer by there i have only ever seen 1 rib for sale which i think is still there, 8.5m scorpion if memory serves.

cheers

Could you make it down to the Easdale cruise? I'm sure if you put an "anyone need a crew - I'm trying to suss boats out" post on the thread (Easdale RIB Rendezvous, Oban, 30 April/1May) You could get a good look at a lot of boats in action. Everything from 3m Sibs to 12M "rib busses" likely going to be there.

i'm in Rhu marina a lot and again never seen a rib in there for sale and there is definitely no demo ones etc. there is a couple on the pontoons which all belong to someone but again not much use for going to look with intention of touch/feel/try them...HOWEVER....worth making a few phone calls to some of these people.

cheers
