zodiac

dont discount the Zodiac

I think that they are great boats my mate has exactly the same setup as the one on ebay and it goes really well, and my brother in law has pro 9 with twin jokey and rear bench with Suz 50

cost 11-12k new

and they both leave me in my avon 400 standing

but then i have no experience on bigger ribs and on ribcrafts etc

but i do know that the support network for zodiac is excellent

didnt meet reserve finished at 7,600 must be open to offers

I wouldn't discount the zodiac but that guy is dreaming with a reserve of 9000 . There is a 4.8 ribcraft on there for 10 ish year old more than I want to spend but could be a good buy for someone .

[QUOTE=ian parkes] no replies yet
Also on B&A zodiac pro3 5.3m in yellow (f99011)

Merc 90 autolube 45hrs new in 2005 only £5300 with trailer
Its in Scotland and I guess a little thirsty but looks nice .

No replies at all on the searider , guess its gone .

Does anyone know anything about Zodiac pro 3 and the merc 90 on it . I can't find any info on the pro 3 so it must be an older model . Also is it the right power . There are quite a few tidy ribs about but they seem to have smallish engines . I guess because they are ex sailig club etc and never needed too much power .

Boat Ref no. PVT 158727 5m Tornado

This would be a perfect 'go anywhere' rig Ian. I'd come with you to view if you like. Maybe hook up with Brad to let a fellow Welshman negotiate the deal.

Point to note.....

That zodiac was advertised on 4th may, so probably long gone by now!
Although it would have been a good deal at the time.

The Searider's not a Searider - it's an Avon D4.65 Diveboat.
These were made in the early to mid nineties and share the same hull profile as the Avon Supersport 4.65, but built to a heavier spec with plywood floor, rather than the moulded GRP floor in the Supersport. They're ok and plane really well as they have a medium Vee hull, but on account of this, they won't cut through the rough stuff like a 4.7 Searider. The different shape of the tubing being less pointed in the bow area distinguish this as a D4.65.
Happy hunting

Yes - a lot of the value in that package is with the engine. I think you'll find a similar age SR4.7 with 2-stroke 60-70 for that sort of money and fuel costs aren't immense in that hp range, so I'd wait for something like that to come along. They are out there, but a touch on the rare side.

Yes I don't mind waiting , the sib will be fine for the beach camping trips etc , so ,long as it pulls the donut ok for Caja .
I have a lot to learn about these boats and feel that whatever i buy next will probably get changed in the near future so getting a cheapie with decent engine is the way forward .

How was the IOM , I haven't even heard who won etc as yet until MCN arrives

I agree but something advertised for over 9500 is unlikely to go for less than 9000 surely . I don't know boat prices that well and its all a bit confusing at present with age and value etc .
If its more local then Iam prepared to go look and make a silly offer.
Thanks for all the help though its really apreciated , I would have bought that Avon "searider" and never known the difference till it was too late .

I wouldn't mind a decent boat without the engine to tidy up and then get a newish engine .

I'll pm you and let you know what mine was advertised for and what I paid for it. If you buy right you'll rarely loose money on a boat. Putting new engines on an old boat is a good way of loosing money. Try to buy the right boat in the first place.

I managed to get the guy down 20% from his advertised price.

Handy hint number: 27

Drop the guy a mail from a random hotmail account with a completely rude offer. And you might be shocked.

Then just mail back saying “the wife went berserk etc” then pop along with the cash and work down from your “rude offer”

Pretty sure this is a review of the Avon, whats disappointing is they tried to load 5 divers + cox + kit into a 4.7m boat and wondered why it wouldn't plane with 50 hp with the heavy kit and fat divers I think the litle Avon would be a much nicer boat.

Review states '4.7 Searider' - different boat to the one Ian had spotted on B&O.

Ian - presumably you've had a look at this:

Cheers Brad
Looks ok that , watching it . Its the sort of size I want with the right seating layout Is 50hp enough on a 4.7.
Iam checking ebay most evenings but to find the boats I have to actually put in a specific make and tornado wasn't one I had been searching for .

50hp will be fine, especially if it's just you three on board. Ive skiied behind a 5.2 Narwhal with 4 on board, powered by a 50 Yam and it flew along. If you intend bringing a few 'guests' on board with heavy kit, then you may struggle a bit to get on the plane, as the hull looks a deepish vee from the photos.

I must admit, I don't know too much about the smaller Tornados, but in a 4.7 hull length, you're not going to be looking at a lot of boat weight.

Maybe someone else on this forum has experience of the 4.7 Tornado?

'Ray' there's a 98' Ribcraft 545 in the West Briton with an Evinrude 90 FICHT on it for £10k. That's way too much money, but a cracking boat. I'm afraid that with a 50hp you're gonna struggle to keep up with the bigger boats unless running at full chat which'll burn more fuel than a bigger engine coasting. If it could be bought for the right money it would meet your needs perfectly for years. Rather than chopping and changing.
