Benny Hill - a true classic but not exactly a good advert for Britain - then again!!!

Talking of Britain you seem to be a little confused - Great Britain and England are not the same - Welsh and Scottish people tend to get rather upset if they are called English!!! Much safer to just call us all British!!!

A friend of mine was born and brought up in Athens - his father is Greek - his mother Welsh/British. He always used to come to visit his grandparents here in Swansea - he loves British winters - especially Christmas time - now he is living here and training to be a cameraman - he had a great project covering the Athens Olympics.

garfish during the Olympic games some money where given in order to "fresh up" a bit the outside of some buildings...mostly the old ones in the centre of Athens (plaka) which are from the late 18th cent.
hope inspite the buildings y'd liked the rest of area, if y've gone to Acropolis but mailnly if y'd liked the people.....

too many cars....consider 4.500.000people having 3.500.000cars and motorcycles......
but unfortunately didn't see the very best we have.... you've seen just centers....not suburbs.....outside...or our islands.......maybe next time try to come with better guidance and more time....
it's like for example for me to come there and see just the Big Ben and around....not the beauty outside nor the true life......

Try to imagine that Athens is like a big valey surrounded by mountains....nowdays we have some cold (around 0 degrees) and in the mountains we have snow...about 10-20cm...on the other hand 40min from center of Athens you can be in beachside......
Should send some pics if you want to see more and better what i mean.....
i'm in yr disposal if y want.....

Re: Benny hill

Just wanted to ask all you ribbers about Benny Hill, we used to get it on one of the channels here in the states, I loved watching his show, very funny stuff, I used to laugh until I cried at times watching those skits, how he seemed to always accidently grab the ladies in exactly the wrong (right) place. Over here on non cable t.v. (network channels) god help us if they ever exposed a breast, doesn't happen. Anyhow, I believe we used to get a heavily edited version of Benny, comments please....

Unbelievable the double standards in the USA - Janet Jackson showing a glimpse of breast being a classic example!!! And yet where is the world's largest porn industry? Talk about double standards!!!

If you liked Benny Hill you would love Little Britain - in this politically correct era it is like a breath of fresh air - although how they get away with it beats me. It has achieved cult status over here.

Apparently they are going to make an American version but no way will it be the same!!!

Benny Hill was very popular but there were many other truly great British comedy shows - porridge - Dad's Army - Allo Allo and of course the ultimate - Fawltt towers with John Cleese.

Not many Yank shows do it for me although I LOVE Married with Children - Kelly is great!!!

Been all over Greece - up into the mountains - along the east coast past Marathon up to Thessaloniki - also to many of the Greek Islands. Sadly it was 15 years ago - will have to do it again soon.

People were really friendly - which is more than can be said for many other countries in Europe!!!

I also love Greece. I mate and I did the pack packing thing there years ago, catching the ferry across from Brindisi. We spent 2 weeks in Athens when I became ill, we were so skint we had to eat every day down at the Plakka, which was an experience. We ended up spending almost a month on Crete "socialising" with the Brit girls there on holiday.
