What's the best RIB?
I have a 4-5k budget. I've had boats before, but never a RIB. Im am using it for coastal waters in Devon and fishing. What would you recommend?

Max of 4 probably. Been looking at up to 5 metre boats so it'll fit in the garage.

OK so we are getting somewhere.
Do you want SEATS for 4 or are you plopping people on the tubes? Is one of those 4 seats the "suicide" seat in front of the console?
Bench or jockey seats?
What you towing with? What is the towing limit? Where will you launch?
Bet you weren't expecting so many questions!

A consul or seats for 2. Happy for the others to get wet butts on the tubes. Launching is easy from a local jetty. Got a Ford Kuga 4wd, so towing isn't an issue. Currently tow a Microplus 501 without any problem.
Engine wise, looking up to 40 ish HP.

OK 40horses is probably a bit low for a 5m in the sea. Not that it wont move, but that it just downright wont shift mega quickly.
A SeaRider 4m with 40HP on the back would be OK. You'd get a pillion style jockey seat on it. Flooding hull makes it very stable for fishing.
You might if the wind blows in the right direction find an SR4.7 for that sort of money...? But I think 40 on an SR4.7 in the sea is a bit under powered, certainly with 4 fat lads on board.
The other commonly liked boat in that size is the RibCraft 485 - but again you may need more horses on the back..
You are right the Kuga should be fine for a boat in that size.
An SR4, with a 40 may be the go to answer. If you are planning on major tripping - wet bums on toobs as not the issue - its safety rather than comfort. But if you are hopping 2 miles to another bay a toob journey is not the end of the world.

4 people won't all be fishing off a SR4 at the same time. SR5.4's appear in that price range. Very good sea boats, not particularly dry, and designed with a commercial / rescue audience in mind. For leisure use, that budget and requirements it might be a case of what comes along - or even keep your options open for something that isn't a rib.

On my SR4 alone, fishing is just about practical. I haven't tried two but it would be a squeeze!
Have a 40HP and with myself or two up, it's nippy and handles great. Add one more person (even my 10 year old niece) and it's a completely different boat - takes more power to plane and top speed down. To be honest though it's probably because I haven't got power trim.
I still probably wouldnt fish two on her though, just not enough room.
I love my SR4 and it's an amazing rib but if I had a bigger garage, I'd definitely be thinking about upgrading to a 5.4 Searider. Hell, I'm still thinking about it!

I have a very beamy 5.5m & fishing with 4 can get exciting especially if you get 2 or 3 of you "fish on" at the same time.

At that budget, my main concern for you is to NOT buy a fixer-upper. Buy a decent boat that you can enjoy now. You can always upgrade later.

Spent most of my boating career doing that..... lots of fun and sold them all for between one and a half and twice what they'd cost me. Self financing hobby
