Its a 900 mile round trip to get there and back but around Ullapool and the Summer Isles takes some beating you have everthing, white sandy beaches, clear blue sea, loads of islands to explore and its surrounded by mountains.

Playing in the whirlpools of Strangford Lough NI was pretty magical. Snorkelling with the seals of Instrahull and camping on Rathlin Island something to be remembered

Too windy for the planned dive today so went walking instead. Took a few pics of the coast for you all. The highest point on those cliffs is just shy of 2000 feet. Nice cruising in better weather  .

Damn sure it does, a lot of Armada kit went down hereabouts*.... I've been dropped off on one of those "beaches" in calm (very calm) WX and there are very deep & interesting caves/fissures running back into the cliff base. There's even a cave you can drive a large RIB into. The diving is mind blowing.

Is that Carrick-a-reed?
There are some interesting under water arches round the back of Rathlin, first one at 27m and next at 45m. The underwater drop off stops at 60m before reversing to form an underwater cliff. Never found the underwater cave though. Shout if you want the marks.

The Rathlin cliffs are a future project - but I'm not "Technical" (  )so unlikely to be at 45m+! Thanks though...

The Rathlin area is a good reason to go technical all on its own.
Audacious, Santa Maria and others in the area are mindblowing plus further out on the Justicia... wow! The bow is amazing and Titanic sized!

Been a couple of times on LW. It is something else to see folk 70m below you swimming around on a wreck as the vis is just that good.
There are only a few places in the world where you can see proper big guns on a battleship and I have been lucky enough to dive several of them including the Audacious. Seeing 13.5 inch shells scattered around the place is a sight, you don't see it very often.....
I actually stopped diving just over a year ago and sold all the kit to help buy the new RIB. Then I made the mistake of watching videos on Youtube of dives on wrecks that I always wanted to dive and never had a chance to do, now I am saving up to buy a Rebreather to go back and dive them!
Incidentally we are coming over to rathlin for a run in the next few months when we get better weather, will post when and where as we have an offer of accomodation in Campbeltown.

Don't forget that a lot of the lochs are the coast. Some of us are lucky though. It takes me five minutes to get to the first picture, and an hour and a half to get to the second pic. and there's lots of amazing coast in between.
