Whats it worth?

I am looking to buy this RIB - it's a 7.5m Ribtec built in 1993. It has at present twin 90 mariners (of the same year I believe). I would replace the 90s with a new 200 optimax.

It comes with an overall cover and a servicable but ropey 4 wheel braked trailer. The boat is in excellent condition and would need little if any work. I would almost certainly get a survey done before making a decision.

My question is what is it worth in its current setup?

I would be able to buy the boat and complete the engine changes for sub 20k. Would that make it worth 20k or substatially less?

Any comments gratefully received!

Nick

For the 11 year old hull say £2500 if its in really good nick. £500-1000 for the trailer & £1000 - 2000 for the engines depending on condition. So if you got the lot for £6k you'd be doing OK. Adding a new opti will cost what £8kish so with a general tart up you might have a boat worth £12-14k. All depends on when and where you are selling of course.

So if you can get it for a good price then could be worth doing. Don't spend £20k on it though as for £20k you can (if you look hard enough) buy a newer boat and engine.

All IMHO of course and I'm sure that others will disagree!

Cheers

Alan

I'm suprised you would put its value that low Alan, I thought good examples of these were hard to come by.
Perhaps its not the right project after all?
Thanks for your comments.

Riva - that would be correct sir.

Having looked at buying a rib last year I would guess that a boat package of £8500 would have been a pretty realistic target for a rib of this size. Perhaps more, perhaps less depending on condition. This info is based on other ribs advertised, but again it was last year I was looking (at the end of the season).......So perhaps more.

If you wanted to change the twins for an Opti then you'll probably get £1500 for each of the 90's providing that there was service history of course!

Am prob completely off base I expect.

whats it worth

Nick
I have a 1996 ribtec, it is as good as new. They are extremely tough, will a prosport last as well?
Maybe someone has an older prosport, I think they were made under the name temptress?

Nick, I would have thought about 11 - 12k as a package, assuming everything works okay. You might be able to split the engines for £1000 each in a months time when the weather warms up and all the tire kickers come out. However I agree with what has been said, buying a new Opti will not make this a 20k boat, perhaps 15k. If the boat has been rigged for twin engines the donkeys dick could be in the wrong place for a single engine set up. Not the end of the world but would need moving and sorting properly as thats a lot of power to put on a transom with a lot of holes from the old engine mounting bolts and glassed up drain.

What's it worth !!!

!!! It's worth what someone is willing to pay for it !!!

Boats are just like anything else in life only worth what the next man thinks they are worth, beat it all down to the sum of its parts but as a bunch of bits its not worth as much, an engine no matter how good it is or how pretty it is, is uneffective unless bolted to the back of a boat, same goes for everything else on the thing.

Ribtec...

Thanks for all your comments guys.

Nice boat but not a worthwhile project at its current price as I suspected.

I'll just have to keep looking I guess!

Thanks again.
