What would you do?

If you found your boat in that condition?

It happened 50m from my RIB in St. Catherine - Jersey XII.2010.

Someone burned them by the night, just for fun......

There's always been problems at St Cath's. Such a quiet out-of-the-way spot for kids to go when they get bored. Much as it wouldn't look very nice, it really needs some security fencing and a camera there. Sad thing is, even if they catch the gits that did it this year, there'll be more kids next year to take their place.

Best thing would be to lace your tubes with petrol. That way, when they put a match to it, they might actually get blown up in the process.

I didn't think that you had that kind of problem on Jersey. Well I guess like anywhere else these kids have not been taught anything about respect, which in my opinion, should start at home .

I'd be quite pragmatic - at least they wont be repaired... makes the insurance claim simpler & quicker at least .

Call insurer -then look for the next bigger version over a pint while remembering 'good times' in what is now blackened mess...

It doesn't look like a yard full of flash new boats, so they were probably worth an awful lot more than just the value on the insurance claim.

Blood sweat, tears and emotional attachement is never covered by the insurance when you've put a bit of yourself into building, rebuilding, repairing and maintaining a boat that becomes part of the family.

I'd tie them to a trailer and set light to a tyre underneath them.

Oh and I'd make sure they survive to suffer for the rest of their lives.

Nasher.

Generally we don't, but just occasionally there's a group of bored kids that roam around and cause some trouble. This particular boat park is like many round the island. It is just an open hard standing area where people lay up their boats for the winter having spent the summer in the adjacent beach mooring or small harbour. The boats tend to be day fishing boats or older small cruisers. Most local insurance policies don't demand locking outboard bolts or trailer wheel clamps, but that doesn't stop mindless vandalism. Sometimes they catch the culprits, but of course the ramifications don't really deter them.

My vote goes for making the culprits volunteer (alright there is not any other option for them ) to be the next Guy Fawkes on top of the bonfire.

It's funny how we get more right wing as we get older. How do you know it was arson?
