Thanks for the advice I will send that letter tomorrow.

I will name the broker weather i get the money transfer or not, but at this stage I don't want to give him an excuses to cancel the transfer. ( if it comes which i doubt)

I have never heard of ABYA membership but looking on his web site I can see no mention of it.

Oh how i wish i only gave 100.00 deposit subject to sea trail, but I had never purchased a Rib before and had no clue what the procedures were.

No News yet.

I do have a hand written note dated 09/04/08 stating that the money was transfered via bacs.

To date there has been nothing showing?

brokers

This is beginning to sound horrible familiar!!

Not a large RIB broker in the Portsmouth direction is it? The same one that sold me a boat with a trailer "not fit for purpose" and nearly caused me to have a very nasty accident??

I think we know................

BACS normally takes 3 working days. If it was initiated late in the day (say after 3pm) the first day usually doesn't count. So 9th April (assume not counted) 10th april - day 1, 11th April - day 2, 12th April Sat, 13th April Sun, 14th April - day 3. You should have your money by now.

I would insist on a CHAPS payment if you are continuing discussions with him, and it turns out that there was an "admin" error where nothing happened - usually costs about 20 (which to get 5k back I would be willing to pay) and is same day but not totally instant.

Update:

I checked my account this morning still nothing showing. I rang the broker who said that the bank had bounced the money back to him. I said that I wanted a cheque, he said he would go one better and i could collect cash. So off to Hamble point again to collect my money.

So I gave Simon Coward 5000.00 on the 20/03/2008 in the form of a cheque.
http://www.marlinribs.com/Brokerage/...4/Default.aspx

On the 05/04/08 I requested my money back This is the email i sent him:

Hi Simon

It is with regret that I am withdrawing from the purchase of Sal
Volatile and request the return of my deposit.

Sadly there are just to many issues with the boat that means she does
not present good value at 9.5K

She is in fact an April 1999 5.5m vessel not a 6 m 2000 as per your
sales information

The engine hours can not be verified electronically as you claimed and
are likely to be significantly higher than the 200 you advertised.

The steering cables may or may not been replaced. The marine engineer
claimed that the old cables were put in the bin and the bin had been
emptied. Either way at some point in the future they will need
replacing again which is why hydrolic was preferred.

We shock hands on a deal that included the fitting of hydrolic
steering. This has not happened.

Please confirm whether you want me to collect the cheque from you or
whether you will be posting it.

Regards Richard.

I sent a total of six emails to Simon Coward and did not get one reply.

Today is the 15/04/08 and I collect from Simon Coward 4950.00 in cash the deduction he explained was to cover his bank charges.

I am pleased that this mater is now closed.

Most Importantly I want to thank all the people that offered support and advice.

I also want to thank Dave Carnell who came out on the sea trail with me and identified the problem with the stearing, Thanks for your help mate Fish and chips on me again!!

I will be buying a rib and I hope to meet some of you guys on the Solent ( if my wife ever lets me on the wheel).

Sorry to hear about your problems so far in trying to purchase a Rib. If you have not been put off brokers altogether we have a Marlin 18 available with a 115hp Evinrude fict outboard. The engine is 2002, the hull plate states it is a 1998 hull but was not commissioned until the boat was rigged with its current engine.

Everything is in good working order and the owner is open to sensible offers

It also has hydraulic steering..

View it here

I think after appalling service like that, Simon Coward has a lot of cheek deducting money for bank charges.

What disgusting behaviour. Glad to hear you got out of the situation only a few pounds worse off, and with probably a bad taste in the mouth.

Yes, I agree. However I'm sure he's just happy to get the majority of it back and be done with it.
