What do you have in your Grab Bag

So what do you carry in the event of having to leap from your burning rib

I guess :

Handheld VHF
Mars Bars
Water
Personal flares
Picture of codprawn

Corkscrew

Seriously though, torch with spare batteries and bulb, thermal blankets, first aid kit, signalling mirror, flares, glow sticks. I don't actually have grab bags - both of my RIBs have life rafts which contain all of this stuff.

I'm with you on the bag - that's a no-brainer. You'll have to tell me what the matches are for though?

You should probably replace those; they're about 10 years out of date now

I've usually got some of the above in said bag, also always carry a diving mask, just in case I need to stick my head under the boat for some reason

i've got one of the waterproof phones in mine, it's got a torch, compass and signal lazer pointer, it also has a wingup charger so no batteries needed, you can't cook with it but you can make phone calls, pretty handy

So you've got this bag full of kit, i'm thinking half a bag of spuds in size and weight.

1. Where do you keep it so that you can grab it in the seconds you get before the rib explodes but so that it's secure when bouncing over waves etc

2. When you're in the water how do you open it up to use the phone, radio etc without everything getting wet, coming out, as you have a big lifejacket in front of you.

I would carry a Lawn mower if I were you Ian. If you fell out your RIB, you could do a little grass cutting

You guys are all great! What a lot of stuff in a grab bag! I note also that all previous posts are from ribbers with boats of 6.6m upwards! Where do any of the rest of you put this stuff in a 5.5m rib or smaller? Is there room for all of you on the boat also?

I have a vision of said grab-bag
a) drowning you due to the weight
b) giving you food poisoning due to out of date marathon/snickers stuff
c) giving you a bad burn as the matches set the flares off
d) getting throttled by Codsprawn as he comes out of the picture and grips your throat
e) getting muscle fatigue from all the winding up you are doing on the damn phone!

Good point! I was wondering the same. I have now decided the following is what is going into mine which I will store in the front passenger Jockey seat.

VHF
GPS
Water
Flares
Food
Torch
Knife
Cord (10 meters)

This won't be a huge back full and it would float. I am actually thinking more along the lines of what happened if you turned the RIB over which is probably my biggest nightmare especially if out on your own. I want a bag that would be reachable when the rib is upside down so it could reside in a jockey seat. I guess it would also need to be attached with a cord should the jockey seat part with its base.

The main idea is enough kit that you can communicate & Signal your position whist eating a mars bar and sitting on your upturned pride and joy
