What do you do with your RIB?

I have often wondered what people actually do with their RIBs.. Personally, I use my RIBs as Safety and support boats for dinghy events in Chi Harbour and out in the Bay, as a platform for taking photo's and to have odd trips out to places. If I wasn't doing the Safety Boat stuff, I am not sure I would actually bother owning one.

Well, I got mine and used it for events in Weymouth over the past few years - this was a guaranteed few weeks boating a year that wasn't that expensive. So the boat was getting used every few months in summer.

Now I have opted out of the events in Weymouth, and the big one has been and gone mine was out at Easter in Scotland for a run over to IOM, and hasn't been since then.

I think next outing will be end of June for a weekend bay hoping and relaxing, then maybe for a week in August on the south coast.

But I wouldn't sell her for the world.

Largely it's my escape from the world for a bit - I usually go out solo (Mrs BM works with boats, so it's a bit of a busmans holiday and she prefers one with a roof) and if you've had a crappy day or week then a couple of hours bouncing around with sun glittering off the water and dolphins playing around you is completely relaxing and you can quickly get to places that most people don't ever see in their lifetime. I have no justification for owning it at all, except that I wanted one. I'd probably do more participative stuff like safety boat work if there was a demand for it round here, but there isn't. I wouldn't say I would never sell it - there may come a time when I want one with a roof when I get old and crotchety and get cold feet, but not for a while yet

I look at pictures of mine, wishing I was using it, sometimes I get to go and clean it when my daughter is at Stagecoach.

...... but when I'm good, I too spend quite a bit of time in Chichester Harbour, nipping my brother over to Cowes or popping over to the Pilot Boat in Bembridge.

this is what i was trying yo say, I wouldn't give up the ownership of a boat lightly! i love the freedom, even if I'm not on the water, the phrase 'will be late home tonight as in going to be boat' is well used after a crappy day!

Mainly for diving, it's not really a shiny rib, can't be too precious when you've got 6-8 sets of dive kit being flung all over it!

3 weeks of diving in August, in Spain, multiple weekends away on southcoast, lakes and rivers.

from 25th May - 2nd June, Solent, IoW trip.

Not bad for a someone in the middle of the country.

Well, I seem to spend a lot of time on mine of late. However, the floating/trailer ratio is not too good!

think of ways to improve it as I dont get as much time out as I would like. It save my sanity when dealing with small children. And diving, freediving and crusing
