Yes, I guess the Nordhavns have a bit more protection with the Portuguese bridge, etc., but still have a fair amount of glass as well for the saloon/bridge area, and more port holes in the hull, which most FPB's don't have. The glass in the FPB's is darn thick in multiple laminations, and like Nordhavn they do provide additional ocean shields as part of the standard boat equipment, but my understanding is that most of the owners have left those in storage at the NZ factory as they really don't think they are needed given the specs on the glass...

It's a very hard business trying to find the "perfect" boat, even on a dream budget!

Most Marina's in France are brim full of them ....... but on the other hand the supermarket carparks are brim full of Renaults, Citroens & pugs and I would have one of them either ............

This summer in france I had a week with a 695, but that was OK as I already knew its limitations ! .............. then I had a week with a Marlin 755 which was better and the hull certainly felt more grippy, but the overall build quality was IMHO poor ......... I also got asked for my ICC this year, which is unusual, but I was exceeding the harbour speed limit at the time............

I would/ will probably buy a boat with a bit more in the way of shelter. I have heard good things about the Pirate 22. A deep v that performs well in the chop yet there is also a wheel house.

A 7knt sub 50ft stink boat is a rock dodger, not 'ocean going'. We were in a marina is Lisbon a few years ago when a 100ft £5m+ UK crewed gin palace came in. She'd hit a storm coming across from Antigua. Most of the crew were so traumatised they jumped ship and flew back to the UK.

A good choice ............ excellent sea keeping.


However, they need lots of power and the 22 centre console with a 250 is the mutts nuts ........... I helmed one back from Jersey in a very nasty sea and really felt safe.

We use it on the river but they’re designed for coastal cruising too.

Think I might change my mind from the Sworsdman 40 to an Axopar 37, saw a new one at cobbs quay marina today, 2 shiny new 300hp monsters on the back. The fitters were about to take her out for a test and she looked the business. Not cheap by anyones standards ouch but looked the business and apparently goes through the rough like butter.
