A few years ago, we got buzzed by a large Minky, we had been drifting for about an hour just chatting, when we heard it, looking out to sea we couldn't believe it when it surfaced on the port side first facing the same way as us, then, 2 minutes later it arced on the starboard side facing the stern, we could see about 6 feet across the top of its back, it was frightening, as it was right beside the boat, I had a 5.8m at the time. I reckon I saw about 12 feet of body length before its dorsal as it dived. No camera on any of us ofcourse. Next it came at us a midships, and dived under the boat, in fear of my own and my crew safety I was ready to move, by I was persuaded to stay by someone, the whale did the same again, coming at us from the other side and went under the boat again, only this time it bumped the bottom. That was enough for me, I and my witnesses, we were off !!

I have been lucky enough to have this happen to me with dolphins, porpoises and seals too. I got eyeballed by a dolphin 2 weeks ago off the Shiant Isles, and I felt a bit intimidated !

Last week guess who came to visit ? But he wasn't for staying on this visit, just passing by. Thats why its not the best shot.

there were a lot of Basking sharks around the Cornish coast in june and July . On one trip between Loe and Falmouth we gave up counting the number we saw it was over 12 , all in pairs and all heading east .
One large one in particular had a dorsal fin that was permanently curled over like the whale in the film Free willy .

Would be interested if anyone has seen that one again he was very big and pretty unmistakable . I wonder where he got to .
I havent seen any now for about a month but you only tend to spot them easily when its calm and it hasn't been calm for a while .

Great Pictures! Were these Orcas from J, K, or L pod? I was out in a Titan Built Rib on a tour from Tofino about a week ago. Saw a humpback and a couple of greys.
