West Bay To Weymouth

Morning All,
Going for a trip from West Bay to Weymouth this week at some point, only ever gone west out of West Bay before so wondering if anything to nasty to look out for, esp going round Portland ?
Thanks in advance.

Lovely Cruise, and Great Slip/Facilities,with Launch-recovery all states of Tide ....Park Cars behind the Beach to save a Packet!..the Trailer can be left on Key..Also paying the Launching fee there lets you use Lyme Bay for nothing if you visit.
Portland Race is mostly easy to avoid by sticking closer in...just beware of ALOT of Pots!
Not normaly a problem but on Slack water low they(Because of the Tidal flow) have ALOT of slack rope Floating considerable distance from their Markers.
Have a Good one and Maybe see you down that way some time!
Just on from Weymouth is Lulworth Cove....always worth a visit.

Brilliant, thanks for that . I assumed Lulworth was quite a long way on, will have a look at that as well.

Watch out for cowboys As Maximus says, great cruise. Try coming up the east side of Portland & keep close in, loads of interesting nooks & crannies to see with relics from the past. If you go into Portland harbour there's a speed limit, I think it's 12kn but I could be way off the mark. Also you might get nobbled for harbour dues if the nice man is out. The harbour is a fascinating place though with plenty of hidden places to seek out. If you can tie up at Ferry Bridge for an hour or so, you can have a fantastic lunch at the Abbotsbury Oyster farm on the Fleet side of the bridge.

West Bay slipway is a pig in anything from the South or East as the swell comes straight in and breaks on the slip. The car park by the mini roundabout in the way in to West Bay is cheaper £1.70 for the day. The beach car park is £5 for the day.

They've roped off around the slip area to stop pedestrians wandering about - quite effective and you have a reasonable chance of launching without someone getting in the way. There's a hose for washing down and plenty of good places to get food by the harbour.

The old slip is gated and closed now but the Harbourmaster has opened it for us when the main slip was 'dodgy'.

All in all a good place to launch and the run along the coast is pretty spectacular.
