Weather

Dear All

I did have a search before posting this, so apologies if I missed some already good answers.

I just wondered what weather info/weather apps people have found to be more reliable than others - in both UK and European waters.

Best wishes

Met office, windfinder, magic seaweed, use them all & take an average. A synoptic chart is very useful when read in conjunction with the forecasts, as it allows you to visualise the weather, at least it does for me anyway.

Ronald McDonald uses xc weather, which if good enough for him is good enough for me , coupled with the fact that I actually understand it !!

Im a great MET office man..but also check XC weather .. and ACC weather. However they all still get it wrong occasionally. I rely on the weather for my winter adventures as much as my summer SIBBing adventures.

Todays forecast was for 40mph winds so I was prepared for a real battle to get to the tops ..yet I was pleasantly surprised it hardly hit 5mph. However they were correct saying it would be bitterly cold and wall to wall snow cover in West Scotland. But a least there wasn’t a midge in sight :-D

I used zyGRIB (zyGrib: grib file, weather data visualization) on my desktop to view NASA GRIB files for a few years. I found it was remarkably good. However i changed computers a while ago and haven't installed it here. I wonder if there is a GRIB viewing mobile app?

A lot of yachties like Weather forecast for Tayvallich, Scotland (United Kingdom) – yr.no

Thank you

Thank you all for all of your very helpful replies. I think I will have a look at them all and over these next few wintery days and weeks do some shore based (i.e. sitting in my office!) testing.

I use the Meteo Consult app on android. Its French but seems very good despite that, and its free. Covers all of the UK and northern Europe.
