Wakeboarding in Torbay/Dartmouth???

I used to live in the Torbay area (now moved to South East) Do you know anybody with a boat who is looking for a couple of wakeboarders to share fuel costs with? We visit the area pretty regularly but don't know any boarders. We have all our own suits/boards/impact vests etc Is criminal to have a lovely sunny weekend, flat water and not be able to go boarding!

Any ideas welcome

If your willing to give tips to a newbie then we could be interested. My board I got for Christmas is still dry

Only got a ski eye though no tower if it makes a differance?

Hi there,

We're actually coming down this weekend if you're about? You would be most welcome to try our boards out too if you like? I have a Double Up Antidote 136 and Gavin (him indoors) has a O'Brian Demented 141. We are only really beginners ourselves, got wake to wake jumps sorted and some toeside 180's and riding switch but really nothing to show off about, we just love the sport! Happy to offer tips and advice tho - what board you got?

We boarded off a 115bhp Rib 2 weeks ago with a ski eye and it was fine, we're not really getting so much air that we need a tower yet anyway!!

Best to try out a few boards before you decide on one to buy. A good pro shop should let you try out some to see how they ride. Check out www.wakeworld.com for general advice but don't take too much notice of their 'board buying wizard' you type in your weight and height and it supposedly tells you your ideal board. In my experience it lists every board under the sun! You probably want a board with quite soft rails (shape of the board edge), and fins that can be changed as your riding progresses, as you start to jump you will want the board to release from the water quicker. You will also need a good impact vest and I find watersport gloves useful as the handle kills your hands when it gets wrenched away by the boat!

There a good few wake boarders out in the area here (Herne Bay) at weekends.
Might be worth contacting the local ski club if your this part of the South East.

That's if you wanted somewhere other than the West Country to play at weekends.

Thanks for the info, we are members of a ski club in Taplow (near Maidenhead) I think Herne bay is about 1.5 hours away. We visit Torbay quite frequently to see family so we were looking for somewhere to board there every now and then. Always good to know of new places to go at the weekends tho!

No worries.
Herne Bay and the surrounding coastline is a bit of a watersport Mecca.
Skiing, Jet-Skiing and the like.
On a busy weekend ther can be as many as 300 jet-skiers about.

I think a lot of it is to do with that launching is free.
You only pay for parking.
The council also do not insist on club membership or the like to use the various public slips.

Also a nice place t visit too and you can always pop in and visit the premier radio company in the world

there wernt any bastard jet skiiers then.

what Johns failed to tell you all is about how much the tossers are hated by other boat users, strange really as the fishermen get on with the speed boaters and ribbers get along with everyone, except the jet skiiers who feel its there devine right to ignore any rules.

Problem solved.

Enough power for wake boarding and sking and enough fire power to deal with the jet skiers.

Oh and ya get a nice sun tan aswell
