Volvo Ocean Race Pics

Good day.

http://www.badviz.com/Galleries/Volv...2006/index.htm

Most of the marshals were very good, however some should not be let in boats (one hardboat specifically). His way of making people move back was to near ram them!!! Some others were really good at getting in line of the photo shot ... despite our boat being covered in large cameras and lenses .. which should have been a clue, some insisted on stopping people see the action by getting in the way!.

However its a hard and thankless task and as I said most were good and well mannered.

Brilliant pics yet again Andy

As one of the marshalls (in a RIB) I have to say that some on the antics of the spectators was bloody awful as well. The exclusion zone bouys at the windwardmark could have been laid up Southampton Water for all the notice taken of them. The big tripper boats didn't help either.

I have to confess to crossing in front of a couple of ribs with lots of telly lenses but I did duck at the moment critique

That, ollyit, must be the understatement of the day

From a very wet, very cold, very tired volunteer marshall

Many, many, many thanks to Andy for the great pics. Used to be an ocean racer but too old now. Still gets the old juices going though.

What you needed on your boat was a bright yellow flag that said Volvo Ocean Race 2005/6 PRESS. Worked a treat for me

Had a few hairy moments under the bows of ABN Amro 1 when tracking them from ahead going down wind - a gust came along and I was unable to accelerate away from them - had to peel off to the side. 520hp in a 40' boat is not enough!

Did you get any good photos of my boat?

How did you get your hands on one of those????

CJL, what does your boat look like? How many passengers etc. I will look if I have any of you, I do have many more.

RIBALD, agreed!! Some of the spectator boats also should not be let loose on the sea's unless they get educated. However the yachties were the worst (with the exception of the marshall in a hardboat & blue lights) for bad behaviour, storming about under power with no care in the world. One specifically (Blue Hull) was very bad and is a repeat offender ... seen him do the same thing at other events

The rain and squalls were great, every time they came we lost a large percentage of spectator boats back to a safe harbour.

Very enjoyable day

More photos

Hi,

Here's some more photos that I took from Andy's rib...

http://www.eye4sport.co.uk/images/sp...ace/Index.html

It did get pretty hectic out their especially when a yacht decided to cut through a non existant space in the spectator boats!
