USCG new "Toy"

Seems the US coast guard is starting to take RIB's seriously.
Check out their new "drug enforcement " Rib

That's interesting!

Reggie Fountain (listed builder of these boats) had a short relationship with Fabio Buzzi a couple of years back, whereby Fountain were building race boats with buzzi hulls and safety canopies, they also used the Buzzi 'Trimax' drive system. They were of course badged as a Fountain to please the American populous.

Their relationship failed in the end, presumably through differences in opinion.

So it's odd to see that now Fountain is supplying boats to the US Coastgaurd that are quite clearly Buzzi designs!

Maybe the love affair is back on.

PS. This is the same basic 36' hull raced by Drew Langdon & Jan Falkowski in P1 'Buzzi Bullet', but i'm assuming it's fitted with an inboard/Trimax, instead of two 300x Merc's

That's racing for you!

Ended up the 'right way up' on this occasion.

This canopied class II boat would have been running close to 100mph tho', so the risks are a little greater.

Hmm, xs550 with a suzuki, the only reason you'd get stopped by them is if they thought you were "taking" drugs!

I rather doubt it, i'm sure even Reggie wouldn't try to shaft Fabio. and I suspect Fabio would be well enough 'connected' to know about it.

Sure it's all above board.

Jonny,
many thanks; the background history,It was very intersting.
Dirk, yes I know i am not a performance craft, but i do seem to have a habit of being pulled over! The guys below pulled me over last time ,which I must seem little fry for the horsepower they had available.
Well I better not throw my "brick" of bread pudding over the side or else they may think I am trying to ditch contraband
I know where the T-Agos launch ship is based ,so will keep a look out for it. They have to practise with these things sometimes! Would love to get some photos (now that would get me pulled over again! ) Well, 5 agencies pulled me over so far;so going for the record
cheers Dal

Limeydal,

Your just a rebel. You and your orange rib makes you even more suspect.
You should see how they tail me around the LA harbor. I only have time to go in the evenings. You can imagine they think I'm doing something sneaky in my rib, not your typical pleasure craft

Choppy,
they are pretty slow at around 12 knots. They were originally surveillance ships converted for Drug enforcment use.
http://www.chinfo.navy.mil/navpalib/...hip-tagos.html

And ,no rebel here
Just a soon as I head out of San Diego Bay, I am just a couple of miles from the Mexican border. Also most of the American pleasure boaters consider summer over now and not many of us out there.
So as a newbie trying to learn handling the RIB, i am out there in the heavier swells that tend to put the locals off.So think it's a case of part being intrigued and part boredom that the local enforcement boats check me out so much.I have been pulled over about 6 times so far; always officious to start with and then once identity is established they seem amused I am in such a boat out there.
cheers Dal
