So you are saying I should forget saving for a rib and cut a couple of holes in the skip I have sitting outside?

Yeah, its a very cheap way of getting on the water, apart from the cost of the engines!

IMHO a complete waste of two good engines and a soon-to-be expensive mistake.
It looks like they are trying to convert a dumb barge into a self propelled barge.
The verados like most petrol outboards are by nature low torque high revs engines. for a heavy steel rig such as this, you need to be able to turn a big prop at lower rpms for any kind of efficiency. Hence all such vessels come with diesel inboards turning at 1200-1800 rpms.
Fuel consumption would be off the charts compared to a diesel inboard.
I don't believe the engines will last very long here. Watch out for "For Sale - 2 X 300 HP Mercuray Verados, low hours, barely used, blown powerhead"

The boat did 16knts and it weights in a just over 40tonne!. The engines did just over 100hrs in 2 weeks and they are all fine. They're Verado's not Yam's!!!
It was done for a big film thats coming out next year. This is one of several boats!!. The outboards were fitted because after 2 weeks filming the engines come off and the back of the boat got cut off for more film work. Outboards are very easy to fit and take off!

Welllll so long as its not a long term application.....
What's the project called? will want to check it out when the film comes out.
At 40 Tonnes it appears to be a lot lighter than it looks...probably due to less than adequate structural members inside (again due to the short term scope/application?)
16 Knots is indeed commendable. I can't imagine that rig planing, yet it wouldn't be possible for it to reach 16 knots in displacement mode? what's the LOA?
