Two75's or a 150?

Looking at splitting the risk, two tanks, two fuel lines and two engines.

Or is the weight for risk issue irrelevant.

Onto a Humber Destroyer 5m-ish which will take both drives.

I'd love a twin set-up but also love the idea of a lighter single.

Always wanted a twin engined RIB.

Is that single better?

E-Tech for me for single but Hondas for twin set-up.

Advice?

A few random thoughts...

If you go down the twin everything route, then logically you'll need to buy from two petrol stations or you might fill both tanks with contaminated fuel

Having two systems doubles your chance of getting home alone but...
Having two systems doubles your chance of having a systems failure that prevents you going to sea in the first place (think about that one a bit)

Having two systems doubles your chance of having a systems failure that prevents you going to sea in the first place (think about that one a bit)

I reckon you need to be thinking 2 x 90's or single 150 if you want similar performance!

I've got twin 130 Honda's on a 8.5m Tornado, and have to say could do with a bit more grunt. So, yeah the single route is for sure cheaper (having just paid to have both fully serviced

). It is fun playing with dual controls though - but big price.

Thinking about changing from the 130's to 175's, but have to factor in the cost of the divorce, so would be a wee bit pricey

I would say it would depend on what you want to do with it. Commercial probably twins but pleasure single. Cost and weight penalty would outweigh reliability. In general most modern engines are pretty reliable. I like Mercs but wouldn't say any of the new engines are "bad" as such and it mostly boils down to personal preference and usually price when the decision time comes. Bear in mind you've got two servicing and oils etc. will also be thirstier on fuel and not quite as quick as a single engine. Just my thoughts. Hope it's helpful.

Hi

The Honda has things limp home modes, warning etc and will do 3-5000 hours. I also agree that it would be 2 x 90hp not 75hp and the cost of the fuel, rigging kits, servicing etc would put me off for any make of engine unless you really did need it.
