3. Classroom - recap 1 hour

if thats any use for feedback

What would be really good would be as above practising with single outboard / outdrive, twin outdrive, twin screws, so the trainees get a direct comparison of all three in identical wind / tide conditions.

Throw in a Hamilton jet as well and it would be an awesome course. I would have paid £150 for a half day doing that without hesitation. It would have been much easier than picking it up "as the opportunity arose".

The fuel costs would be minimal as it is all done on tickover :-)

Ok leave it with me as working on the jet drive element but all other bases covered but would need a minimum 8 to cover costs of boat hire fuel and instructors.
Cheers

Ok
Can offer the following
7 m rib with outboard 12 m PRincess V 40 twin out drives 9.8 Beneteau Antares on twin shafts and a 8 m jet rib cost £135 minimum of 6 to make it pay but can do this on a regular basis if proves popular
Cheers

I did my (ahem) sportsboat and subsequent rescue endorsement on an SR 5.4 with twin 30s. Genius plan by the centre- the rest of the fleet was SR4s with a single30...

Unless you are on a cat the advice I was given for close quarters was "pick an engine & stick with it".

At the beam of a rib the in vs out leverage difference is nothing you can't compensate for with a bit more throttle.

Advice that has worked for me for the last years...

Sounds like fun, and really good experience. I'd be up for it, dates permitting.

At a basic level that's about it - but there is a lot more you can do - for example making the boat go sideways(ish) when moving out from a berth.
Steer towards the berth, astern on the outside engine to get the bow out, back to neutral, ahead on the inside engine to get the stern out - then also astern on the outside engine a little - on some boats this can get them moving sideways.

Years of practice on a 10m twin sterndrive cruiser up on the Thames as a teenager!

I'm not sure how it would work on a deep V rib with the engines close together though - probably best on Tim's V40

hi Tim, if you get enough people wanting to do the course I'd like come along at some point, but it would have to be in the new year after I get over my op end of Nov, not get a twin setup myself, not really thinking of getting one in the near future either, but it would be good to have a go at a variety of options, never know when the need may arise

I used to work there 25 years ago, it may even have been me! Lol

I loved those 4m, fantastic safety boats and easy to teach all manner of courses from.

What Tim has put together sounds great, as I told him I can't do that date but hope free on next one. Despite thousands of hrs working I relish some time on the various drives in or day to update skills. Can never do too much training

Much the same as Ian and Chris...a spring session works well for me. Maybe drag AJ/Avocet/250 in to(give me time to work on them).
