tubes in the water, is lard a solution?

My boat is stored in the water (Med) most of the year and gets a build up of growth quite quickly. I've been told to smear lard on the parts of the tubes which are in the water. Has anyone tried this (or other solutions) & with what results?

Tubes

Welcome and hi I remember while on a course recently they were talking about not having petroloum jelly coming into contact with a rib tube, Ive never heard this before, lard sounds safe or thick beeswax but why not try some on a patch first to see if it has any ill effects, on the hypalon or pvc before applying to the underside of your boats tubes first

I'll give it a try & let you know the results when the boat goes back in the water. I've had another idea, to ballast the bow whilst the boat is on its mooring to keep the rear of the tubes out! Although I think it will only be a part solution as there will probrably still be some of the tube in the water.

Anymore ideas are still welcome!
