Trim pieces

What kind of trim pieces do people have around the base of their console screens. I was thinking Stainless, but might be an expensive soloution.

Any others?

On the outside? From memory, nothing!

A bit of stainless would set one off nicely though!

Do you mean something to go around the screen on the outside under the fixing screws? If so, I have the same dilemma, should I get a piece of stainless or just go with washers under each fixing screw? I must admit that at least for the present I was going to go with simple washers!

Yes, something to hide the screws Ian. I did acquire a piece of stainless strip at 1360mm long and about 25mm wide, but it's too short by 200mm

Have a look on your console Ian, if it's the right length then I could be perswaded to part with it

i had the screen rail made so that the screws were partially obscured from vision.

That's quite a good Idea, however my screen rail has already been made and this won't be possible.

One way I did think of was to mount the screen directly to the console via coutersunk screws and capping this off with another piece of makralon that had been painted on the underside and silkaflexed in place.

Using C'sunk screws may not be a good idea. The Thermal expansion of Makralon ( polycarb.) is quite different to that of f/glass so you run the risk of cracks. I always make sure I have a generous clearance hole in the Macralon and do not over tighten. It needs to move a bit.

Oh, never thought of that, might have to replace with button heads and counter bore the holes for a bit of clearance. Whatever happens they wil be covered by some form of trim.

I just finished fitting my windscreen this am. I do not need trim so I used polished SS. penny washers, both in and out and Nylock nuts on the inside. That way I could tighten the screws "light snug fit" and not have to worry about them coming loose. A real PITA job getting inside the console, just like repairing a leak under the kitchen sink. As my right hand women was at work I ended up clamping the internal nut with a small Mole grip and then screwing them in from the outside. My back hurts!!!

Do you have a closeup photo of the stainless frame around your windscreen you could post of pm? It looks really sturdy.

I need to get one made up as the children automatically reach for the top of the screen and it's only a matter of time before it gets pulled off.

Yep - I get the same problem Been meaning to get a rail fabricated to avoid this.

mark littler. at marine fabrication in canock staffs. dropped boat early, and picked it up fitted in afternoon.

On mine, I used a strip of 25x5 black self adhesive neoprene between the screen and the console (think it was called 'hatch seal tape', from local chandlers. It looks ok and acts as a gasket quite nicely. For fixings, I used M4x20 button head bolts, nylocs and flat washers - they look ok.

Have tried that; it does not work. Screen wobbles about with a single row screw down. Cracking is usually due to the thermal expansion problem.
